Forgiveness – Sue Hanisch 4th May 2018 – Workshop materials

We hope you enjoyed this workshop and found it beneficial.

As a reminder of the event I have now included Sue’s presentation.  To download it in slide format, click here.  To download it in handout format click here.

To view the Sky News interview with Neville Lawrence click below.

To illustrate another facet of the story, here is an earlier Channel 4 interview that was made seven years earlier, immediately after the guilty verdict on Dobson and Norris.  In it Dr Lawrence addresses, in his own way, revenge, retribution and justice.  In talking about the perpetrators, he attempts to understand and explain, but not excuse, their actions.  This was too early to talk about forgiveness, but perhaps he was already searching for it in himself.

Perhaps the most difficult question is the role of forgiveness in counselling and psychotherapy.  I think Sue’s was saying that it must be approached carefully.  I think she was saying that it is frequently present in the background, and it may sometimes be appropriate to name it.  However, the timing and manner of the naming are crucial.

We hope to see you again soon.

Best wishes,

George MacDonald
